Hello from Milan. I'm in Jeff's office using his computer as we are still in temporary living space. Our temporary home is Embassy suite meets cabin in the woods. You have a kitchen, refrigerator, and bed, bath and living room, but it's no frills, no AC, no shower, and only CNN and BBC. It stays pretty cool, especially with the fan we purchased the first night I was here, but the washer takes 2 hours, the clothes dry on the line, and the party starts outside our window at 10PM. Hopefully we'll be out by Saturday, but this is Italy and who knows! I have successfully taken solo journeys on the subway and to the grocery store. Jefff and I spent the weekend walking, and have pictures, but need to be using our own computer to start that. My love anf hugs to everyone, whereever you are!!

Your message sure brought back memories of my move to England in 1978. Going to the grocery store with 2 kids on a bus never ceased to amaze me. I had to shop every day because my fridge was the size of an apt. sized one (in a 4-bedroom house!). Bakery to buy bread; butcher to buy meat; veggie stand for veggies; and one "supermarket." It has changed now ... everything supermarkets. How is your shopping? Weather?
You will be lonely. I figured out that "new friends" are not the same as "old friends" ... you have no "remember when's" to talk about. Chances are they will be lifetime friends tho ... even more so than your friends from here. I can't wait to come and see you and travel on the public transportation with you. Robb and I love doing that in England. Take care and keep in touch. Love, Jo G.
Hi Janet & Jeff
I'm glad you're getting settled in, although it does sound like the "getting settled" part is still in the works. How about "I'm glad you're in"?! I've not taken a look at your weather, but suffice it to say that Houston may soon be the Venice of Texas. Rain, rain, go away...
I can't wait to read about the places you'll go and see pictures of what you'll see. How's your Italian coming along? Can you get to the appropriate restroom? This would be my biggest concern. (Okay, second biggest. First would be locating the chocolatier.)
Have fun, be well, blog often, and know that we're here & you can call on us if you need anything stateside.
Love,
Barb
