It's truly amazing what is 2 hours drive from our front door. This weekend we headed south into the region of Liguria. This region is protected by the Appennines, so the driving was winding roads. We didn't get an early start and we didn't have reservations, but that didn't matter. We reached our destination of Portofino and had a wonderfully relaxed afternoon and evening. Now my month long, or has it been since June?, vacation is over. It's back to laundry, ironing cleaning and add to that, a Friday morning bible study on Matthew, and a Benvenuto club event almost weekly. The club is for women expats who are english speaking interested in many things in Milan. This Wednesday is a trip to Lago d'Iseo.

I'm back in Milan. Travel was smooth until arrival here and there was a big back up to get through immigrations. Jeff was waiting for me with our new rental car and a hug. Traffic into Milan was the worst I've seen since moving here, and delayed my personal crash landing further. Jeff let me sleep until 5PM. I didn't sleep a minute on the plane, but read most of Harry Potter and the half blood prince. I told Tricia I'd have the 7th one finished by the time she got here, which is the first of October. I'll be going to my first 'newcomers' club meeting for english speaking women in Milan and also will start a bible study on thursday. Now to try to stay awake for a few more hours...

Sturday September 8th, 2007

Jeff returned to Milan on September 1. Someone has to pay the bills while the other is on vacation for the next two years. Janet is planning to return to Milan September 15 (or so). This will need to be determined so that Jeff is back from a quick trip to Doha Qatar targeted for September 12-14 so he can pick her up at the airport. Vacation has been great, and much of Tricia and Stevens house got a coat of paint. Liz and Danny are doing very well. We got to attend one our "Care Group" meetings. We volunteered to host the next one, but every one had some excuse about it being "too far away" or some such nonsense.
The six of us had dinner on August 31 at "The Melting Pot" in Houston. If you've been to one of these places, you know what the evening was like. If you haven't, you'll have to go see for yourself. All I can say is "be prepared to eat A LOT, and wear short sleeves".
